Welcome, come on in, stay as long as you like, and be sure to come back
often for new ideas, advice and suggestions. We would love to hear from you.

Dear Frank and Trudy,

I’m ready for a change. I’ve had long hair most of my life and at 28 and ready for a new look. I’ve always been a bit of a nature girl and usually wear a ponytail to make my life simple. My life is quite full so I don’t have much time to fuss with my hair. Are there some low maintenance shorter styles that would suit my lifestyle? Also, I’ve
heard that I can donate my hair to be made into wigs for cancer patients.
It sounds like a great cause, is it true?
Sarah – Ottawa, ON

Dear Sarah,

Two great questions, and yes is the answer to both of them. There
are lots of short and mid-length styles that require very little work on
your part. Cuts that are heavily textured often require nothing more than a light paste and 45 seconds to style out. Heavily textured cuts tend to rely heavily on the use of well positioned color accents. A little bit of color can greatly enhance
your natural features. Unfortunately you didn’t email a picture to us so we can’t recommend a specific style or color technique. Our best advice is look around your friends and coworkers to get some ideas of what might suit you. Pay attention to face shape, eye & hair color, and the hair’s natural texture. Find someone with a style similar to what you might want and arrange a consultation with their hairdresser.Regarding donating your hair, we have had several clients here in Vancouver donate their hair through the Canadian Cancer Society. Information is available at www.cancer.ca

Be sure to let your hairstylist know that the hair will be donated so that it can be washed, put into a ponytail of 10-12 inches and cut-off before the actual style cut begins. This is a generous gift but please be sure that you are comfortable with the change that you are committing to. It is perfectly natural to feel a bit of a sense of grief or loss when you give up something has been a part of you for so long.Bottomline, you go girl! Hair is not life. It’s simply there to enhance life.
Change is important and if you place too much value on length you can wind-up compromising on style. You’re bored, change it up and do something great for someone who is in a real battle.
